I'm posting a couple of images of my performance/installation/body-sculptures from the Fountain Exhibit last week in MIami! I think teaching this class inspired me in some ways.

Final Exam

Choose two works from your text book to write an essay. Research well... you must use a minimum of two sources outside of the text. Compare and Contrast the two works discussing similarities and differences. Be sure to include a detailed description of each work, background information like when and where it was made. What was the political and religious context? How did the climate and geography influence the work?

Post to the blog by 10:15 a.m. today.

Gothic Art

Hi Everyone,
Sorry about the confusion. I arranged for a substitute because I am in Miami for exhibition, but substitute did not show. I really apologize. Go ahead and look in your book and research Gothic Art. Choose one work and write a short reflection with links.

Next week is final exam. In will be an in class essay. It is open book again just like the midterm.

Please read Chapters 9 and 10. Research one work of art or architecture from one of the listed topics either online or from text or lecture. Write a paragraph reflection including a link to your research.

Ancient Rome

Look over Chapter 7 in your book. We are still very influenced by ancient Rome. Think about all of the things that we have covered about ancient Rome in slides, in literature (for example, Ovid's Art of Love), or in the film. Give and example, then write a few sentences about something that we covered in class or in the book that still exists in some form in our culture today.

Research religion and mythology in Ancient Near East. Continue your time machine story, setting the dial for this category. Ancient Egyptian Art

Read Chapter 2

Research at least one or ancient Egyptian God or Goddess. If you would like you may write about multiple. Next choose a work of art or architecture from Ancient Egypt and write a continuation of your time machine story from last week, this time visiting ancient Egypt. Although this is a work of fiction, be sure to include some things that you have learned from research and the reading assignment. Use descriptive language.. invoke the five senses.. smell, taste, touch, sight, sound.

The first five responses get extra credit. In addition you may create a work of art illustrating your story for extra credit. Feel free to provide a link to this in your response.

**We will not have a quiz next week. We will review for a quiz for week 4.

Prehistoric Art.. Stonehenge

Please read chapter one of Janson's History of Art.

Janson (page 44) defines a chromlech as a setting of religious rites. The most famous chromlech is Stonehenge. Imagine that you are able to invent a time machine and transport yourself to Prehistoric Stonehenge. Write a very short story accounting an event that could be witnessed on this adventure.. use descriptive language (touch, taste, smell, sound, and sight) and don't be afraid of humor. I want you to use your imagination. First five responses get five points extra credit!!
